Critics Choice Awards: Argo Takes the Top Prize
The atmosphere was a little bit awkward tonight at the Critics Choice Awards. Ben Affleck had been snubbed in Best Director this morning, but the BFCA made up for it and gave Affleck the top two awards of the night. Argo picked up the Best Picture win and Affleck won for Best Director. There was a lot of good will in the room towards Affleck. When he won Director, he got a semi-standing ovation. Maybe the sympathy for his snub will carry Argo to the big win at the Oscars. Daniel Day-Lewis & Jessica Chastain took home Best Actor & Actress. Day-Lewis got a standing ovation while Chastain gave the best speech of the night. Silver Linings Playbook took home a few awards. They swept the Comedy categories (look for that to happen again at the Golden Globes on Sunday) and also took home Best Ensemble. Another highlight of the evening: Quvenzhane Wallis winning Younger Actress and reading her speech from an iPhone. Absolutely adorable. Here’s the complete list of winners.
