Emmy Winner Predictions 2013: Best Hairstyling

The Emmys are less than one month away…so it’s best to start predicting. I’m going to take a look at each category and predict who I think will be taking home the lovely Emmy statue on Sept. 15 (Creative Arts) or Sept. 22 (Primetime telecast).

Best Hairstyling – Single-Camera Series:
Boardwalk Empire – “Resolution”
The Borgias – “The Wolf and the Lamb”
Downton Abbey – “Episode 4”
Game of Thrones – “Second Sons”
Mad Men – “The Doorway”

*This lineup is the exact same 5 shows from the year before. Obviously they’re impressed with their hairstyling work. Downton Abbey won last year and I can see it happening again. Mad Men has done very well here in the past and you can never count them out of anything. Boardwalk Empire had some intricate work in their episode too. I can see them as a dark horse. But I’ll go with Mad Men for the win, mostly for Betty’s new hair color.*

Best Hairstyling – Multi-Camera Series or Special:
The Big Bang Theory – “The Bakersfield Expedition”

Dancing with the Stars – “Episode 1608”
The Oscars
Saturday Night Live
– “Jennifer Lawrence”
The Voice – “The Live Shows, Part 1” (Season 3)

*SNL won this award last year and DWTS won the two years before it. Obviously they are both in the mix. The Voice got a lot more nominations than last year, which means the Emmy voters like it, but will it seem impressive next to the other nominees? The Big Bang Theory is a contender here. The episode nominated has some showy work where the four guys were transformed into the characters from Star Trek: TNG (which was nominated every year for Hairstyling). I’m thinking the voters could be nostalgic and vote for it based on that.*

Best Hairstyling – TV Movie/Miniseries:
American Horror Story: Asylum
Behind the Candelabra
Liz & Dick
Phil Spector
Political Animals
Ring of Fire

*Let’s all take a moment to realize that Liz & Dick received an Emmy nomination. Now we can move on… I think all of the TV Movie/Miniseries categories will come down to a battle between American Horror Story and Behind the Candelabra. I’m going to give Candelabra the edge here because of all the wig work with the actors, especially Damon & Douglas. Look out for Phil Spector to be a spoiler, just for the courtroom wig that Al Pacino had to sport.*
