Emmy Winner Predictions 2013: Best Main Title Design & Theme Music

The Emmys are only a few weeks away…so it’s best to start predicting. I’m going to take a look at each category and predict who I think will be taking home the lovely Emmy statue on Sept. 15 (Creative Arts) or Sept. 22 (Primetime telecast).

Best Main Title Design:
American Horror Story: Asylum
Da Vinci’s Demons
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn
The Newsroom

*This category leans more towards effects-heavy sequences. American Horror Story basically copies its opening from the first season, to less of an effect. Elementary is a Rube Goldberg machine that I can’t tell if its effects-generated or an actual machine. The Newsroom is a lot of old news clips edited together. I think it will come down to the other three shows: which are actually less Emmy friendly than the others. Da Vinci’s Demons is an animated sequence and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is very effects generated but doesn’t have a huge impact. I think this award will go to Vikings, which was done by the same team who did True Blood which was also nominated in 2009. That team should take the Emmy this year.*

Best Main Title Theme Music:
The Americans
Da Vinci’s Demons
Hemlock Grove
House of Cards

*This category is tough to predict. Sometimes they go with bigger/more important shows (Desperate Housewives, The Tudors, Six Feet Under) and other times they just go with random shows (Pirate Master, Masters of Horror). It’s hard to know where the Emmy voters will go with this one. House of Cards seems to be the likely choice. It had the most nominations out of the group and its’ composer Jeff Beal has previously won this award. I would watch out for Elementary to possible upset.*
