Fall Schedule Predictions: CW
Officially Renewed: Arrow, The Originals, Reign, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries
TBA: America’s Next Top Model, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie, The 100, Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
*The CW is basically a glorified cable network masquerading as a broadcast one. Their ratings barely crack the 2 million mark and I honestly don’t watch any of these shows outside of ANTM and Whose Line Is It Anyway?. But it also helps with these predictions because I don’t have any kind of emotional ties with any of the programs. I can objectively make predictions based on ratings and buzz.*
8PM: The Originals
*Monday nights have been a trouble spot for the network. Nothing they’ve had has been successful. Even shows that have established audiences have seemed to falter on this night. I have a feeling that will change with The Originals. The show has a loyal following and has actually gotten some positive attention from the press and critics. It should remain solid on Monday nights. iZombie is a pilot that has been getting positive attention so far. It seems like a classic WB show and could draw in some different viewers on Monday nights.*
9PM: Supernatural: Bloodlines
*Going into its 10th (!) season, Supernatural is still one of the highest rated shows on the network. It performs well on whatever night they place it. I think it’s time they think about a replacement for it. What’s a better one than a spin-off? The spin-off has been getting some positive attention, and it’s obviously a very compatible pairing.*
9PM: The Flash
*Arrow is the CW’s highest rated series. There’s no way it’s moving from this time slot. It might seem too obvious that the network will pair its highest profile pilot The Flash with it. They are both about superheroes, both DC Comics related. But I think it will prove a powerful pair and pretty much hold all of Arrow‘s audience. I think The Flash will eventually distinguish itself enough that it will be able to lead-off a night of its own next season.*
8PM: The Vampire Diaries
*The Vampire Diaries has yet to produce a successful show following its timeslot. The CW should just close up shop and leave the already renewed Reign there. The show has done well and gained a following of its own. It’s still early to move it from this prime position, but I think eventually it will be strong enough on its own.*
8PM: America’s Next Top Model
9PM: Hart of Dixie
*Friday nights are pretty much a wasteland for the CW. Whose Line Is It Anyway? is the most successful thing the network has had on Fridays in a while. But it has a weird airing schedule where new episodes will be broadcast in the summer. I’m not sure if it will have enough episodes to air in the fall also. ANTM doesn’t have an official air date yet, so I assume it will follow the previous cycle and begin airing in August and continue into the fall. Hart of Dixie is a falling star. But it will probably only need one more season to have enough for syndication. It’s a safe bet for renewal.*
Midseason: The Messengers, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
*Whose Line Is It Anyway? has been the most successful thing the CW has done in a while. But the network is constantly airing the series, including new episodes in the summer. The show should be on the fall schedule, but they might not have enough stored up to air year-round. The CW needs one midseason replacement and The Messengers sounds the most network-friendly, and honestly, the most interesting.*
