Upfronts 2014: CW Fall Schedule Announced
The last of the broadcast networks announced their lineup this morning. The CW is barely hanging on as a broadcast network, but we still need to report their happenings. Let’s take a look…
8PM: The Originals
9PM: Jane the Virgin
*I’m not surprised at all that The Originals was moved to Monday nights. This night has been a huge sore spot for the network and The Originals has proven a consistent performer on Tuesday nights. It should easily transfer to Monday nights and give the network something to be happy about. Jane the Virgin sounds like a classic WB show, which haven’t been all that successful for the network. I’ll be surprised if it makes it past midseason.*
8PM: The Flash
*I really thought the Supernatural spin-off was greenlight and would definitely make it to air. Apparently it wasn’t good and the network passed on it. Now they have The Flash opening up the night with Supernatural following behind it. It will probably end up being the network’s strongest night of programming. Smart move by them.*
9PM: The 100
*Arrow wasn’t moving anywhere. But this was another case where I was sure they were going to do a superhero lineup with The Flash following it. It’s probably better this way, but I’m surprised that The 100 made it to a second season. I didn’t know it was doing that well in the ratings.*
8PM: The Vampire Diaries
*I knew this lineup wasn’t going to change. Reign has built a loyal following in this timeslot and still holds a significant amount of the lead-in from The Vampire Diaries.*
8PM: Whose Line Is It Anyway?
9PM: America’s Next Top Model
*Whose Line Is It Anyway? has proven a successful program for the network. Although I wonder if there will be a burnout factor with the show also airing original installments in the summer. Maybe they’ll shortern the summer season? And America’s Next Top Model is a walking ghost at this point. It’ll probably only do one cycle again and leave the time spot open for midseason.*
*I have no idea why the CW renewed Beauty and the Beast. Almost none of their original episodes have cracked the 1 million mark. It doesn’t make sense. iZombie and The Messengers actually sound promising, so I’ll be looking for those when midseason rolls around.*
