Emmy Winner Predictions 2013: Best Casting
The Emmys are exactly one month away…so it’s best to start predicting. I’m going to take a look at each category and predict who I think will be taking home the lovely Emmy statue on Sept. 15 (Creative Arts) or Sept. 22 (Primetime telecast).
Best Casting – Drama Series:
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
The Good Wife
Homeland
House of Cards
*This category favors new shows. Boardwalk Empire and Homeland won the previous two years for their first seasons. That means that House of Cards should win. But I just don’t know if it is as liked as the other shows that have won. It’s still a relatively unseen show. I think Homeland will repeat and take home the trophy again.*
Best Casting – Comedy Series:
Girls
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie
30 Rock
Veep
*Like with the drama counterpart, new shows are favored in these categories. But the problem is that none of these shows are in their first season. It makes it a little hard to predict. Veep did very well with their nomination totals this year, including two more acting nominations in the main categories (Chlumsky & Hale). Obviously the show is well liked and its still new enough to win this award.*
Best Casting – TV Movie/Miniseries:
American Horror Story: Asylum
Behind the Candelabra
The Hour
Political Animals
Top of the Lake
*Usually big ensembles take this award. All five of these fall under that category. But I think it will come down to American Horror Story or Behind the Candelabra. AHS got a ton of acting nominations and the voters loved it. But HBO has swept this category for the past two years and the casting was one of the most talked about aspects of Behind the Candelabra. It should easily go to Candelabra but watch out for AHS waiting in the wings.*
