Upfronts 2014: FOX Fall Schedule Announced
FOX announced their fall schedule this Monday. Nothing too surprising was revealed. They are putting a lot fo Let’s take a look at what the network will be offering up this fall…
Sunday:
7PM: The O.T./NFL Overrun
7:30PM: Bob’s Burgers
8PM: The Simpsons
8:30PM: Brooklyn Nine-Nine
9PM: Family Guy
9:30PM: Mulaney
*So FOX is finally moving on from their Animation Domination lineup that ruled Sunday nights for almost a decade. The animated shows are still prominent, but the fact that they are moving two of their prime shows to this night means that FOX wants to make a change. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming off a critically acclaimed first season and will get a higher profile spot after The Simpsons. Mulaney is a new multi-camera sitcom starring former SNL writer John Mulaney. FOX has a lot of faith in the show. It should be interesting to see if the show will succeed.*
Monday:
8PM: Gotham
9PM: Sleepy Hollow
*Sleepy Hollow was a major hit for FOX last fall. There wasn’t a chance that was going to be moving from its spot. Gotham is FOX’s biggest drama pilot. They obviously must have a lot of faith in it by giving it a prime spot of the schedule. It should do well in that time slot. So far, it doesn’t look like any of the networks have anything similiar competing against it.*
Tuesday:
8PM: Utopia
9PM: New Girl
9:30PM: The Mindy Project
*FOX has given up its hope of having an all-Comedy lineup. None of their mixing and matching shows provided a successful combination for the night. FOX is putting a lot of stock in its new reality series Utopia, which follows 15 people trying to create their own civilization. I’m not sure of the premise, but I know FOX will promote the hell out of it. New Girl and The Mindy Project will continue to underperform in their Tuesday night time slots.*
Wednesday:
8PM: Hell’s Kitchen
9PM: Red Band Society
*It’s hard to believe that Hell’s Kitchen is still going strong on the FOX schedule. Enough so that the network is letting it launch an important night of programming in the fall. Red Band Society has the powerhouse executive producer Steven Spielberg behind it and stars Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer. The premise sounds very much like Glee in its first season. If the show is critically acclaimed enough, I can see it do relatively well in the ratings.*
Thursday:
8PM: Bones
9PM: Gracepoint
*Bones is another aging FOX series that is still doing very well in the ratings. The show has been bounced every night of the week and stil has a loyal following of fans that will keep the show afloat. The network is using its success to launch the 10-episode American remake of Broadchurch called Gracepoint. I think it will do well enough for the network to be happy. Plus it leaves an opening for the network to launch new shows at midseason without having to cancel something.*
Friday:
8PM: Masterchef Junior
9PM: Utopia
*Masterchef Junior did very well for the network last fall. I actually forgot that the network had ordered a second season of it, or else I would have easily predicted it in my previous blog post. Utopia is getting a second airing during the week, at least in the beginning stages of the show.*
Midseason
Drama: Backstrom, Empire, The Following, Hieroglyph
Comedy: Bordertown, Glee, The Last Man on Earth, Weird Loners
Reality: American Idol, Boom!
Miniseries: Wayward Pines
*The only surprise is that FOX didn’t announce anything about their midseason schedule. Usually they at least reveal when/where they expect American Idol to premiere. But they didn’t make any mention in their official press release. The only thing mentioned at the upfront presentation was that the show’s episode order would be reduced and it would likely go to one-night a week. I’m surprised that Glee didn’t have a spot on the schedule either. And from the sounds of it, the president of FOX hinted that the episode order would very likely be reduced from 22.*
